- 1 lb (450 g) ground beef (or beef + pork mix)
- 1 small onion, very finely chopped or grated
- ½ cup milk
- ¼ cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- ½ tsp ground nutmeg
- ½ tsp ground ginger (optional but traditional)
- Salt & black pepper
- Butter or oil for frying

- 2 tbsp butter
- 2 tbsp flour
- 2 cups beef stock
- 1–2 tsp soy sauce (or a splash of Worcestershire)
- Salt & pepper to taste

How to Make It

Soak breadcrumbs in milk for a few minutes until soft.

Mix meat, onion, soaked crumbs, egg, spices, salt, and pepper.
The mixture should be soft—not stiff. -
Shape into large, slightly flattened meatballs.

Brown gently in butter over medium heat. Remove and set aside.

In the same pan, melt butter, whisk in flour, and cook briefly.

Slowly add beef stock, whisking until smooth.

Add soy sauce and seasoning. Return meatballs to the pan and simmer
10–15 minutes until cooked through and tender.
